Family Food Game — Museum of Play
Overview
When I arrived at the museum requesting volunteer work there was many different options. The museum decided to put me on the Family Food Game project. This was the perfect opportunity to test out my project management, and development skills at full capacity. The exhibit was originally built using Visual Basic and crashed all the time. This was inconvenient for an already busy Information Technology staff. At the time the museum was undergoing their expansion and everyone was busy. After having a couple meetings the museum agreed to allow me to develop a Web 2.0 AJAX application to replace the existing exhibit
My Role
I began by redesigning and transitioning the database from MSQL to MySQL. I wrote a custom PHP script that created new tables based on the existing content for database normalization. Development and coding was done completely by me. In addition to the main exhibit I built a content management system for managing the exhibit. The exhibit was built lean to allow for a theme change in the future.
